If you want to cull birds, choose those that are undergoing a molt (new feathers coming in) or the very pretty birds (they have already gone through a molt). Do a gradual transition with the new feed if it is a new supplier. (geese are not allowed in the duck pen as they are not so nice to the ducks.<br /><br />thought that was interesting. they consider the pen their safe haven, that and the pond. that might be why i have not gotten many eggs lately. they surely were upset. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7444124598415048280.post-45127249413115673582015-08-18T18:18:35.578-07:002015-08-18T18:18:35.578-07:00my ducks have quit laying. i have some that actua...my ducks have quit laying. i have some that actually are starting to lay but out of 50 birds that are old enough to lay i get 5 eggs now a day. <br /><br />i know that stress reduces egg laying. i have sold some birds this year, which equates to rounding them up and catching them. not a favorite thing for the ducks. they are molting now. is it common for them to slow down the egg laying when they molt or do i have another issue. i do not see any signs of preditors, the dogs do not bother them. i use normal yard tools. clean the pools and give them plenty of feed. i am out of ideas. last time i figured a preditor, another time it was too much salt in the feed. but i believe these are not issues this time. i am going to try a new batch of feed to see. any other suggestions? <br />Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
