Exporting Ducklings and Goslings Around the World

Originally posted by John Metzer on Wed, Sep 15, 2010 @ 05:25 PM

We export ducklings and goslings around the world.  Within the past twelve months we have shipped to:
  • North America: Mexico, Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec,New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island)
  • Central America and Caribbean: Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Trinidad, Bermuda, Panama
  • Southeast Asia: Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea
  • Middle East: United Arab Emirates
  • South Pacific: Tahiti
All these birds are shipped from San Francisco International Airport and we utilize Delta or United airlines the vast majority of time.  Both have excellent customer service, travel to many destinations and have reasonable rates.  For Canada shipments we typically use Air Canada, which is also an excellent airline.

We have had inquiries from Africa and countries in the Indian Ocean but the difficulty there is getting the birds to their destination soon enough.  We normally deliver them to the airport at noon on Monday and they must arrive at their destination by Wednesday morning (our time).  After landing they must still go through customs and travel to the farm which normally takes several hours.  In addition, we must use one airline for the entire trip.  Airlines will not accept live animals from a different airline along the way.

Luckily, most countries accept our health certificate, though some countries require additional tests.  For example, Mexico requires an Avian Influenza test within 30 days of departure.  The first step is for you to contact your federal veterinary authorities and ask them what is required to import from the United States.  is our standard health certificate sufficient or are additional tests required for your country?

Then you can contact us to see if we can get the flights to get the birds to you within an appropriate period of time.  Please email us directly at metzinfo@metzerfarms.com or phone us at 1 831 679 2355.

We ship all types of birds, from meat birds to layers to some of the more special goose breeds.  If you have an interest in importing our birds or learning how to export from the USA, visit the Exporting Page on our website.

  5. We have shipped to the Philippines before and will again next week. The air freight cost depends on the number of birds we are shipping. If you contact us via phone or email and tell us how many birds you want, we can get a freight quote.

  8. I wonder what would be the cost to Australia? But then again, we have that many regulations and quarantine I am beginning to wonder if it is worth it... But I would love some Sebastopols and and Tuffed Buffs...

  9. To protect their animal industry from disease introduction, Australia has very stringent import regulations. I am sure it would be very difficult and expensive. We would not want to tackle that at this point.

    1. We can ship anywhere if: 1) we can find one airline that will take live animals all the way from San Francisco to the final destination - we cannot use more than one airline 2) they arrive within 36 hours of leaving San Francisco and 3) our health certificate is acceptable by the importing country. For a sample health certificate, go to http://www.metzerfarms.com/HealthCert.cfm If these conditions are met, we can ship to you.

    1. I am sure we can ship hatching eggs but there would probably be too many connections to ship day-old birds. The first step would be for you to get the health requirements from your national veterinarians and send that to us in English. We would also need to know what you want to order and we can quote you a price. I assume the airport is Julius Nyerere International Airport? Please contact us at metzinfo@metzerfarms.com Thank you.

    1. The goslings would have to be shipped by air freight. I am guessing the cost for this would be $150 plus the $80 health certificate. Philippines also requires extra documentation that cost $75. The charge for delivery to the airport varies but ranges from $20-$125 depending on how many shipments are going. The birds themselves would only be about $40. You would have to pick them up in Manila. If this is of interest, contact us in March or April as that is when we will be hatching them. Thank you.

  24. can duckling be shipped to Saint lucia in the caribbean ?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I am sure they can IF a major airline (American, United, Delta) flies to Santa Lucia. We cannot use one airline to fly them to Miami and another airline from Miami to Santa Lucia. The airlines will not do this. In addition, it has to be cooler than 85 degrees in Miami for American to accept them. So my guess is it would be better to try shipping in October or November.
